Ep. 56 – Gen X: The Forgotten Leaders
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Generation X has often been called the forgotten generation—caught between the larger Baby Boomer generation and the highly discussed Millennials and Gen Z. Yet while others have dominated headlines and social media conversations, Gen X has quietly stepped into leadership roles across businesses, skilled trades, nonprofits, communities, and organizations throughout the country.
So how did the generation raised to "figure it out" become the generation doing so much of the leading?
In the final episode of our Gen X series, we explore how the experiences that shaped Gen X—independence, resilience, responsibility, adaptability, and a willingness to learn through experience—continue to influence the way we lead today. We discuss the strengths that have made Gen X effective leaders, the blind spots that can hold us back, and why many Gen X leaders prefer action over attention.
We also examine why Generation X has become a driving force in small business ownership and entrepreneurship. Having grown up learning to solve problems, adapt to change, and work independently, many Gen Xers chose to create opportunities rather than wait for them.
Whether you're leading a company, a crew, a family, or simply your own life, this episode explores the unique leadership legacy of Generation X and the impact this often-overlooked generation continues to have on the world around us.
